Introduction and Background

CalPlanning is the UC Berkeley's budgeting and forecasting application, which was built using Oracle Enterprise Performance Management (EPM). Smart View is the Excel interface for planning and reporting.

Why use Smart View?

Use the Excel interface of Smart View for same purposes of the web interface to CalPlanning:

  1. Ad hoc analysis and reporting
  2. Data input instead of the web-based forms
  3. CalPlanning reports from CalRptg, CalPlanRptg, and HCPRptg

Course Overview

Designed for CalPlanning users who are experienced with the data in CalRptg, this course introduces the ad hoc capability in Essbase, which can be used to query the CalRptg database.

Pre-Requisites

  1. Experience with the reporting from the CalRptg database. This content is covered in the CalPlanning: Intro & Reporting course.
  2. Smart View installed locally on your desktop. If you do not have Smart View installed, submit a ticket with Service Now to request the installation.
  3. If you are not on campus, you'll need to launch the Virtual Private Network (VPN) called GlobalProtect before launching Smart View.

  7. Import a CalPlanning report into Smart View
  8. Identify best practices for accessing data with Smart View
