Ad Hoc Queries from CalPlan Overview
CalPlanning has two databases with plan and actual data: CalRptg and CalPlan. There are several differences between the two databases:
- Who has access
- When data is updated
- Dimensions in the database
Who Has Access
- Everyone has access to the CalRptg database
- Only Planners have access to the CalPlan database

Summary
When you want to report on plan data from CalPlan and do not want to wait until the data updates that happen every three hours, CalPlan is the database to use. Many planners have created ad hoc queries that they can quickly refresh and check the data that they have entered into CalPlan.
In most other cases, it makes sense to report from CalRptg because it is available to everyone, has the most current Actuals data, and offers some additional dimensions.
