Smart View Options

Options Overview

Options in Smart View are user preferences that offer flexibility in accessing and displaying query data and are a key component to the power of Essbase.

Formatting

For formatting data, you can use Cell Styles or Excel Formatting. Excel Formatting retains numeric format, font, shading, and column width when you refresh data. If your worksheet has a great deal of data, this can impact performance on data refresh. In that case, Cell Styles is recommended.

Data Options

When you have many members in the rows of your query, some may have a value of zero or have no data. In this case, you may wish to suppress the rows. There is not an option to suppress columns. As columns generally have data, this should not be an issue.

For cells that have no data, it is recommended that you select #NumericZero to display a value of zero. If you leave the default option of #Missing, Excel will not be able to calculate values on the cells with the #Missing label.

Saving Options

When you select OK to save the Options you have selected, they are saved for the sheet you are on. This makes it possible to set different options for different sheets. If you’d like the options to apply to all sheets in the workbook (file), select the  and select Apply to All Sheets.

Options Save button

If you select Save as Default Options, the options will apply to all queries you create in the future unless you select other options on the sheet.

Caution: You cannot suppress data in rows when you begin a query because Essbase won’t be able to return any results. For this reason, you should not save suppress data in rows as a Default Option. This is the error message that is returned when row suppression is turned on when executing a query for the first time.
