Exercise 1
Identifying Your Point of View (POV)
1. You want to run a CalRptg report to review your current year Forecast that reflects all of the reforecasting you have done to date. Which Dimension Members would you select to return this data?
Dimension | Dimension Member |
Year | FY23 |
Period | YearTotal |
Time Series | Year-to-Date |
Scenario | Forecast |
Version | Working |
Entity | 1_ |
2. Select the scenario and version from the bulleted list below that you will need to derive each report:
Report | Scenario | Version |
Actual revenue and expenses | Actual | Final |
Most current version of the plan for next year | Operating Budget | Working |
Budget that was committed at the beginning of the year | Forecast | Initial |
- Always use the Final verstion with the Actual scenario; it is the only version that has data.
- The Working version of the Operating Budget scenario is only available during the budget planning process. After the submission deadline, the Planner Submission version is created. Once the budget reviews are completed and any additional funding is allocated, the Final version of the Operating Budget is created.
- When the Operating Budget is Final, two copies are made for the Forecast for the following year. The Initial version is read-only; it shows the starting point for the year. The Working version is editable; this is the version that planners update throughout the year as changes in the plan are identified.
3. Select the Year, Period, and Time Series from the bulleted list below that you will need to derive each report. You may use an item more than once. Some items will not be used at all. And there may be more than one correct answer for a report.
Report | Year | Period | Time Series |
Budget for all of next year | FY24 | YearTotal | Year-to-Date or Periodic |
Actuals for second quarter of this year | FY23 | Q2 | Periodic |
This year through December | FY23 | Q2 | Year-to-Date |
- With YearTotal for the period, you can use Year-to-Date or Periodic for the time series; they return the same results.
- To get data for one specific period of time, use Periodic for time series.
- To get data for a cumulative period of time, use Year-to-Date or Quarter-to-Date.
